To be able to publish on Okadabooks, your document must change from PDF or Word or TXT or RTF to Epub.
Epub is the accepted document format. If you upload any other format, you'll get all kinds of error messages.
Now What is Epub?
Epub for short simply means Electronic Publication. This type of document ends with .epub extension, as against .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt or .pdf extensions.
Nonso and the Fat Hen.epub is an epub file.
Nonso and the Fat Hen.pdf is strictly a PDF file. Same goes with the other formats.
So you have to ensure your document has a .epub extension before uploading it.
Epub is the format used by almost all online digital publishing platforms. Amazon, Kobo books, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, amongst others.
Although the last two like their epub documents to be wired specifically to certain styles, so as to ensure it comes out well and people can read it without complains on their devices.
With Okadabooks, you have two options to convert your document(s) to epub.
- Convert it on other eBook conversion platforms or app.
Since 2013, I've been using online epub converters for my works and among them, I choose to remain with two:
These platforms make your epub come out very well.
- Make use of the Okadabooks epub creator. Read this article I wrote about it here.
Now let's go back to number 1. Before going to okadabooks.com to upload your work, visit any of the above platforms.
For this tutorial, we will use https://convertio.co
First thing to do is visit the link. This is how it comes out in a tab or phone. Please tap on the images for a clearer view.
Sorry, I'm using my tab for this tutorial, not a laptop. Those who use laptops, I'm sure you can follow. Please bear with me.
Next is to chose your document. Click on "From computer" to choose the document you want to convert. See the whole process below. Take note of the red marks.
WPS is where I can easily find my documents. So I went there and chose the document I wanted to convert
After selecting, your document shows like this on the platform. You can see my document has a .doc extension. Now look at the right side marked red. It shows JPG, but we want our file converted to Epub. So I click on it.
From the drop down, I'll select "Ebook" not Document. Another list comes out.
Now from the new drop down, I'll select Epub.
There. We have epub. Now hit convert. This is what you'll see while its converting.
When it is finished, you see it in green. Now hit download.
Now look at my file. It has a .epub extension.
Time to go to your Okadabooks ebook creation page. After filling in your details above, e.g, author name, title, description, price, etc, come down here and click upload.
Select the .epub document you just downloaded from the conversion site. Then upload it. You see it loading.
And here it has finished loading. You can now save and preview, before publishing. Normally, your preview will come out well, as long as you arranged the headings and other content well in your word document before converting it.
Now I hope this really helps. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
